1. Quantifying movement demands of AFL football using GPS tracking Science is becoming an increasingly important part of sport. The use of GPS technology on the field is relatively recent, and its impact has the potential to change the way the game is played. A revealing report has been published by by Ben Wisbey, Paul G. Montgomery, David B. Pyne and Ben Rattray. They compare, for the years 2005 to 2008, various criteria about players during a match (such as speed, distance travelled, exertion index, efficiency and much more) , for forwards, defenders and midfield players, as gathered from GPS units worn by players. The criteria include playing grounds, including Skilled Stadium at Kardinia Park. |
