About us

The Geelong Cats Sports Foundation (formerly the Kardinia Park Sports Foundation) was established in 2002 to generate funds for the benefit of Kardinia Park’s sporting organisations, including:

• Geelong Cricket Club
• Geelong Football Club
• Geelong Football Umpires League
• Geelong Netball Association
• Geelong Unity Netball Association
• St Mary’s Football Club
• Geelong Swimming Club

The Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, chaired by Helene Bender OAM, and has a project registered with the Australian Sports Foundation, enabling donations to be tax deductible.

In 2002, the Founders Appeal successfully raised $1 million dollars in pledges over three years. With in excess of $1.5 million now in our investment accounts, the Foundation made its first grants in 2007, totalling $105,000 for the improvement of sporting facilities and infrastructure of Kardinia Park’s sporting organisations. In 2008 grants totalling $165,000 were made.  These grants were as follows:

$60,000 to the Geelong Cricket Club to assist in the funding of the international standard turf practice wicket facility
$30,000 to the Geelong Swimming Club to fund a feasibility study into further development of the Kardinia Pool
$80,000 to the Geelong Football Club for two separate projects:
       * $30,000 to fund consultancy work associated with Stage Two of the redevelopment of Skilled Stadium
       * $50,000 for partial funding of a new temporary stand at Skilled Stadium to sit 600 people, to be installed in mid 2008
$15,000 to Football Geelong in 2007 to assist with their drought relief program to revitalise local sports grounds
$55,000 to St Mary’s Football Club to install lighting on West Kardinia Park Oval
$30,000 to the Geelong Football Umpires League to fund the commercial drawings and feasibility study for the refurbishment
and extension to their rooms in the Park

Donations to support the Geelong Cats Sports Foundation are tax deductible. All funds raised are invested, and only the earnings can be distributed to the Foundation’s beneficiaries. Therefore, donations will support the beneficiaries forever.
